What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is a subdivision of healthcare focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those that impact the spine. Chiropractors will use a variety of approaches including hands-on spinal manipulation, instrument assisted adjustments as well as several other soft tissue modalities to treat the spine and adjacent structures. By delivering these adjustments, we aim to remove misalignments that add pressure on to vessels or a nerve that can cause dysfunction or pain. These misalignments that impact the nervous system are called subluxations.
A neurological based chiropractor will focus on the relationship between the spine and the brain and focus their adjustments to improve the synchronicity of the two, producing better processing of the nervous system. These specified adjustments are designed to optimize functionality while addressing symptoms like pain or immobility.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A neurological chiropractic adjustment is a segment-specific adjustment used to address conditions impacting the nervous system. While the goal for some adjustments is to improve motion with multiple vertebra, this adjustment aims to target a single segment to deliver a specific adjustment with intention of removing a subluxation.
What conditions can chiropractic care help?
Chiropractic care is often used to manage musculoskeletal problems like back and neck pain, migraines, sciatica, joint discomfort, and sports injuries.
Neurological chiropractors focus on the nervous system, using non-invasive methods to treat a wide range of related conditions. These include headaches and migraines; dizziness and balance issues; chronic pain; nerve conditions like neuropathy; movement disorders such as Parkinson’s and tremors; concussion recovery; autonomic dysfunction (e.g., POTS); developmental conditions like ADHD and autism; sleep disturbances; functional disorders such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue; common musculoskeletal issues; and stress or anxiety-related concerns.
What techniques and modalities are used in our chiropractic office?
Chiropractic adjustments may involve various techniques, including spinal manipulation (high-velocity, low-amplitude thrusts), spinal mobilization (gentle stretching and movement of the spine), soft tissue therapy, instrument-assisted adjustments, and adjunctive therapies such as moist heat and soft tissue massage.
In addition to traditional chiropractic, our office offers Non-Surgical Disc Restoration, Non-Surgical Knee Restoration, cold laser therapy, electro-medicine, and therapeutic ultrasound.
Please see the Our Services tab for more details
How many chiropractic sessions are typically needed?
The number of chiropractic sessions needed varies based on the severity and type of condition, how the body responds to treatment, and each person’s overall health goals. Some individuals experience relief after only a few visits, while others benefit from a longer course of care or occasional maintenance sessions to support ongoing wellness. After an initial examination, Dr. Kate will create a personalized care plan tailored to each patient’s specific needs and progress.
What are the benefits of chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is a conservative, non-invasive approach that focuses on optimizing spinal alignment to support proper nervous system function. Because the spine protects the central nervous system, even minor joint dysfunctions can contribute to irritation or impaired communication between the brain and body.
By restoring normal joint motion and reducing mechanical stress on the spine, chiropractic adjustments may provide the following benefits:
Improved nervous system function and communication
Reduced nerve irritation and associated symptoms (such as pain, tingling, or numbness)
Relief from back, neck, and joint pain
Improved mobility, flexibility, and joint biomechanics
Calm overactive muscles that cause tension and guarding
Support for better posture and spinal stability
Enhanced overall physical function and movement efficiency
Chiropractic care is often used as part of a comprehensive approach to musculoskeletal and neuromuscular health, helping patients maintain function, reduce discomfort, and support long-term spinal health without the use of medication or surgery.
Are chiropractors real doctors?
Chiropractors are healthcare professionals who undergo extensive training and education, similar to a medical doctor, to earn a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree. Focus of studies include A&P, neurology, radiology, clinical diagnosis, hands-on technique training, several other courses and electives, as well as five board exams to obtain licensure. While chiropractors are not medical doctors (MDs) or osteopathic physicians (DOs), chiropractors are licensed healthcare providers who are qualified to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions.
Not a lesser specialty, just a different one!
Will this be covered by my insurance?
Insurance companies and their plans can differ quite a bit, not only from one state to another but also in how much of your treatment they are willing to cover. Some plans may provide extensive coverage for recommended services, while others may offer only limited benefits, leaving a larger portion of the cost to you.
Once your case has been carefully evaluated and your physician has developed a personalized treatment plan, the office will review your coverage and provide a detailed explanation of the associated costs, so you have all the information needed to confidently move forward with your care.
Can chiropractic care help with posture improvement?
Yes, chiropractic treatment may help enhance posture by correcting imbalances in the musculoskeletal system, reducing spinal misalignments, and relieving muscle tension that often lead to poor posture. Chiropractors often incorporate spinal adjustments, targeted exercises, ergonomic advice, and lifestyle changes to encourage proper alignment and healthier posture.
Is the treatment painful?
Most adjustments are not painful, but patient may experience some soreness, similar to a workout or deep tissue massage. Instrument assisted adjustments aim to reduce discomfort and increase the specificity of the adjustment.
As for our other services, the majority of our patients find the treatments to be comfortable and pain-free. Whether you are relaxing under our cold laser, lounging in our luxury recliners or Back On Track chairs, most patients will attest to looking forward to their appointments. Some even fall asleep!
The Activator Tool
The Activator is a handheld, spring-loaded adjusting instrument that delivers a controlled, reproducible thrust to specific areas of the spine or other joints. Instead of manual adjustments, this tool can provide prescise corrections with minimal discomfort.
It's designed ot restore motion, improve nervous system function and reduce pain-like symptoms without the need to "twist" or "pop". It's controlled and non-invasive approach is typically preferred for patients who are sensitive to manual adjusting, children, older adults, or those with acute pain.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to health that focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions related to the spine, joints, and nervous system. It is generally considered safe and effective for many common conditions, including but not limited to, back pain, neck pain, and headaches.
Serious complications are rare. As with any healthcare treatment, certain individuals, such as those with specific medical conditions, may require modified techniques or may not be candidates for certain types of adjustments. Through our thorough initial exam and health history review during our initial consultation, the doctor will determine how care can be tailored to ensure the safety of each patient.
Why should I pick you as my chiropractor?
I've always felt it was important for myself as a patient to feel valued by my doctor, not profitable to. I wanted to feel like I was being heard and not guided into fitting a checkbox. I have experienced the "plateau" in traditional medicine when it came to healing and felt the associated disappointment. While I am grateful for my medical doctors stopping the problem from getting worse, cesation was not my solution. I was not prepared to adjust to a life of deficit. I went to a chiropractic neurologist as my "last resort" and my life was forever changed for the better.
I am eternally grateful for the doctor that took the patience to target the root cause and not just manage the symptoms. As a doctor, I have made it my mission to ensure my patients always feel valued, respected and heard. I take pride in meeting patients where they are and helping them understand where they could be.
